Blocking the Barents Observer for our Russian readers is\u00a0the only wrongdoing\u00a0in this case,\u201d he underlines.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>\u201cSuicide propaganda\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>The Barents Observer took Roskomnadzor to court after it in February 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/thebarentsobserver.com\/en\/civil-society-and-media\/2019\/02\/barents-observer-now-blocked-russia\">blocked the newspaper<\/a> in Russia. The media regulators argue that an <a href=\"https:\/\/thebarentsobserver.com\/ru\/obshchestvennost\/2019\/01\/ot-popytok-samoubiystva-k-schastyu-i-gordosti\">article<\/a> about Dan Eriksson is \u201cpropagating suicide\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The court case is <a href=\"https:\/\/adcmemorial.org\/en\/news\/the-barents-observer-takes-russian-censors-to-court-with-support-from-adc-memorial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">supported by ADC Memorial<\/a>. It was filed in July 2019. After a loss, an appeal case was filed and subsequently rejected by the Moscow City Court in January 2020.<\/p>\n<h3>Story about survival<\/h3>\n<p>In the disputed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thebarentsobserver.com\/en\/life-and-public\/2019\/01\/suicide-attempts-happiness-and-pride\">interview<\/a> with Dan Eriksson, the homosexual S\u00e1mi man from northern Sweden tells about how he struggled with prejudices and stigma and twice tried to take his own life.<\/p>\n<p>Eriksson lived through years of mental distress before he came to terms with his sexuality. He is today a happy man who works with mental health among young gay men.<\/p>\n<p>The Barents Observer argues that the story about Dan Eriksson in no\u00a0way propagates suicide. On the contrary, it is a story that can help others overcome similar crisis.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe consider the decision of the Second\u00a0Court of Cassation to be erroneous. The story of how a person survived suicide attempts cannot be propaganda. And we plan to file a complaint with the Supreme Court of Russia &#8211; the last court in this case in Russia,\u201d says Publisher Atle Staalesen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The ADC Memorial\u00a0confirms that it will support the Barents Observer bring\u00a0the case to the Russian Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<h3>Cross-border journalism<\/h3>\n<p>The online newspaper based in Kirkenes, Norway, has delivered daily news in both English and Russian since 2003.
