{"id":22418,"date":"2017-12-04T15:39:21","date_gmt":"2017-12-04T12:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adcmemorial.org\/?p=22418"},"modified":"2021-02-26T15:58:51","modified_gmt":"2021-02-26T12:58:51","slug":"review-of-the-case-of-svetlana-medvedeva","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adcmemorial.org\/en\/video-en\/review-of-the-case-of-svetlana-medvedeva\/","title":{"rendered":"Review of the case of Svetlana Medvedeva"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On September 15, 2017, the Samara District Court completed its review of the case of Svetlana Medvedeva v. the Samara River Passenger Enterprise. <strong>The court found that the internationally-recognized ban on discrimination against women means that women cannot be denied employment in \u201cdangerous\u201d specializations<\/strong>, even though a ban of this nature has been enshrined in Russian law.<\/p>\n<p>This case was reviewed five years after the Samara District Court\u2019s 2012 decision rejecting Svetlana\u2019s claim based on the fact that a list of 456 \u201cbanned\u201d professions for woman (including the position of motorist\/helmsperson) had been established by government resolution. The cause for the reconsideration of the case was <a href=\"https:\/\/adcmemorial.org\/www\/11416.html?lang=en\">a 2016 decision regarding Svetlana Medvedeva\u2019s complaint that was adopted by the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women<\/a>. (This was the Committee\u2019s first decision related to Russia.)
