The state report of the Russian Federation was considered at the 80th session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women on November 2-3, 2021. Alternative material<\/a> by ADC Memorial, Citizen\u2019s Watch<\/em> in cooperation with the project “Woman. Prison. Society” and Sphere<\/em> Charitable Foundation highlighted the problems of discrimination against women in employment, the situation of women in detention, violations of the rights of LBT women, repressions against activists and human rights defenders, discrimination against vulnerable groups (women from ethnic and religious minorities).<\/p>\n

In the open dialogue with the Russian delegation, CEDAW experts asked<\/a> many questions on the issues that were raised by the civil society organizations. The Committee was particularly concerned about gender inequality in employment and the list of professions banned for women, the fact that the law against domestic violence hasn’t been adopted, the negative impact of the law concerning the NGOS and media so-called \u201cforeign agents\u201d, violence against LGBT, violations of women’s rights in the North Caucasus, the status and documentation of migrants, refugees and other vulnerable groups, their access to education.<\/p>\n
