This year, we are organizing a meeting in Brussels with Roma veterans who voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This conversation follows a series of publications and studies by ADC \u201cMemorial\u201d dedicated to the situation of Roma in Ukraine throughout different stages of the ongoing war caused by Russian aggression. Previous work includes the animated documentary <em>\u201cChavoreskero Drom Mariupolestyr\u201d \/ <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/V2RX7D2XQHE?feature=shared\">\u201c<span class=\"yt-core-attributed-string yt-core-attributed-string--white-space-pre-wrap\">Travel of a Roma boy from Mariupol\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/em>, about a Roma child who fled from Mariupol, as well as human rights reports such as <em><a href=\"https:\/\/adcmemorial.org\/en\/publications\/roma-from-ukraine-a-year-of-war-and-flight\/\">\u201cRoma from Ukraine: A Year of War and Flight\u201d <\/a>(2023)<\/em>,<em><a href=\"https:\/\/adcmemorial.org\/en\/publications\/romani-voices-from-hell-discrimination-epidemic-war\/\"> \u201cRomani Voices from Hell\u201d<\/a> (2022)<\/em>, the photo report<em><a href=\"https:\/\/adcmemorial.org\/en\/publications\/for-today-they-don-t-seem-to-be-shooting-the-roma-of-donbass-an-unquiet-postwar-peace\/\"> \u201cFor Today, They Don&#8217;t Seem to Be Shooting&#8230;\u201d<\/a> (2016\u20132017)<\/em>, and the early report <em><a href=\"https:\/\/adcmemorial.org\/en\/publications\/roma-and-war-in-eastern-ukraine-refugees-displaced-persons-victims-of-violence\/\">\u201cRoma and War\u201d<\/a> (2015)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The event in Brussels is organized by ADC \u201cMemorial\u201d in partnership with the Ukrainian Centre of Romani Studies at Kherson State University. The aim is to bring to the EU capital the voices of Roma residents of Ukraine, who share the hardships of war alongside other Ukrainians\u2014many of whom have chosen to defend their country in uniform. The discussion will focus on how civil society and international organizations can support Roma communities, protect their rights, and offer assistance in these difficult times.<\/p>\n<p>Among the participants are Arsen Mednik, a veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of Roma origin, and Yanush Panchenko, an expert, researcher, and co-founder of the <span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Ukrainian Centre<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"> of Romani Studies<\/span> at KSU. Yanush was forced to flee the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson region and continues his human rights work in exile.<\/p>\n<p>The event will include a screening of a fragment from a documentary film about Arsen Mednik.<\/p>\n<p><em>Details about the time and location of the event will be announced soon.
