The event<\/a> was organized the Anti-Discrimination Centre Memorial\u2013Brussels together with\u00a0the MEP (Lithuania) Rasa Juknevi\u010dien\u0117<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Representatives of indigenous movements were speaking<\/a> about repressions and persecutions by Russian authorities, the speakers were human rights defender and Chair of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center (Kyiv) Eskender Bariev<\/strong>, the activist of S\u00e1mi Indigenous People and member of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) Valentina Sovkina<\/strong> and \u00a0journalist from Bashkortostan Ruslan Valiev.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In recent years \u2014 since the beginning of Russia\u2019s aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of Crimea \u2014 the Russian Federation has moved from systemic oppression of Indigenous peoples to widespread repression of activists and all those who raise their voices against violations of the rights to identity, religion, territory, environment, and freedom of expression.<\/p>\n

The publication is created in the framework of the projects \u201cDocumenting and analysing international crimes committed by the Russia\u2019s armed forces after 24.02.2022, helping victims of these crimes and informing on crimes\u201d (implemented by Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group, Center for Civil Liberties and ADC Memorial Brussels) and \u201cEmpowerment of Indigenous peoples and minorities of Russia through Human Rights education and develoopment of anti-discrimination public discourse\u201d, funded by the European Union.<\/em><\/div>\n
