ADC Memorial took part in the session of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights

On October 16, 2020, expert of ADC Memorial Eugenia Andreyuk addressed the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights during its session on the latest developments in Belarus, together with the representatives of the Belarusian Human Rights community, Ales Beliatskiy (Human Rights Centre “Viasna”) and Harry Pohoniaylo (Belarusian Helsinki Committee).

The Human Rights defenders emphasized systematic character of Human Rights violations affecting all the independent social institutions, the unprecedented level of violence by law-enforcement and lack of any investigations of Human Rights violations by the Belarusian authorities. The situation of women, children and elderly persons who are also specifically targeted by state representatives was discussed. The civil society representatives called upon the MEPs to realize previously stated intentions and to organize a commission on Belarus within the European Parliament, to facilitate bringing responsible in massive Human Rights violations to justice and to expand the sanctions lists.
