Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression continues to deprive thousands of Ukrainian children of their childhood, identity and fundamental rights. Drawing on first-hand testimonies and expert perspectives, the roundtable will examine the different ways in which the aggression affects Ukrainian children, including violations of the right to life, forced deportation, indoctrination and militarisation.
The discussion will address the situation of children in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine and the role of the European Union in protecting them, securing the return of deported children and ensuring accountability for those responsible.
Speakers:
- Yurii Kapushenko, Head of the Children’s Affairs Service of Kherson City Council
- Evgen Zakharov, human rights defender and organiser of the photo exhibition Angels of Kharkiv Region, dedicated to children who lost their lives as a result of Russian aggression
- Natalia Vasileva, former school director in the Oleshky district and witness to violations of children’s rights in the Russian-occupied part of Kherson Oblast
- Baiba Tavaresa, Head of the Ukraine Division, European External Action Service (EEAS)
The speakers’ interventions will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
Participants wishing to attend in person or to follow the discussion online are kindly invited to register in advance via the following link.
