Professions forbidden for women by the state, harmful traditional practices and labeling NGOs “foreign agents” without “political activities”

On October 27, 2015 the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women will consider official report of the Russian Federation and several alternative reports provided by human rights organizations.

Anti-Discrimination Centre “Memorial”, among others, will present its report on discriminatory state restrictions against women (ban on certain professions, inadequate protection against violence, attempts to legally ban abortions), as well as discrimination of women in traditional patriarchal communities.

The report “Different forms of gender discrimination in Russia: from the professions forbidden for women by the state to harmful traditional practices” prepared by ADC “Memorial” for the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women with the support of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), which deals with discrimination of women from vulnerable groups – Roma women, migrant women, women and girls in the Northern Caucasus.
