During the 49th session, opened on 8th November in Geneva, Committee Against Tortureconsidered the fifth periodical report of the Russian Federation on fulfillment of Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishmentwithin past six years. Members of the Committee considered not only official government report but also alternative reports of non-governmental organizations. The report of ADC ‘Memorial’ “Roma people, Migrants, Activists: Victims of Police Abuse ” (http://adcmemorial.org/www/5874.html), prepared with the support of International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), was taken into account among other alternative materials provided by Russian and international non-governmental organizations. Reporting to the delegation from the Russian government, reporters on Russia, Mrs. Gayer and Mr. Broony,asked also special questions on the subject of police violence particularly against representatives of vulnerable groups of population: Roma people, migrants and civil activists. On Monday, 12th November, the Committee against Torture will go on considering Russian report.
