ADC Memorial hosted a human rights conference «Problems and risks of migration in the Russian Federation: protection of the rights of migrant workers, foreign citizens and stateless people». For two days experts and human rights activists from Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan discussed the problems of work migration.
Guests from neighboring countries told about the work of human rights organisations at their home. Participants from St Petersburg told about the work of ADC Memorial on protection of migrant workers’ rights. The issues of regulation of migration, adaptation of migrants, observing of their socio-economic and cultural rights, abusive activities of state institutions, police violence and hate crimes were discussed. The participants shared their experience and analysed pecularities of migration laws and law enforcement practice.
A new edition of the boardgame «Is Russia land of opportunity?» was presented. Its authours Olga Zhitlina and Andrei Yakimov presented the game to the participants of the conference and offered everyone to play a role of a migrant worker and try to overcome all obstacles they face in a foreign country. The boardgame aroused a keen interest and positive reviews: the participants of the conference paid attention to its large enlightment potential and similarity to the real conditions of modern Russia.
