Network against ultra-right violence in France: yesterday, today, tomorrow. Analysis of ultra-right movement in France

On October, 29 the seminar “Network against ultra-right violence in France: yesterday, today, tomorrow. Analysis of ultra-right movement in France” will take place in the office of the Anti-discrimination centre “Memorial” at 6 p.m. The address of the office is St Petersburg, 7 Krasnoarmeyskaya, 25/14, office 410.

The members of the French network Reflex will tell about the ultra-right movement in France, history of the founding and development of the anti-fascist movement in France, many initiatives in Paris, international work and solidarity with activists from other countries.

Why should we know about ultra-right movements? How should we study them? What is the role of the National front in France? How many groups do really exist? Who has real supporters? Having faced constantly changing ideologies of nationalist parties and initiatives in France, the activists decided to study and analyse history and alliances of the movements.

The participants of the seminar will be able to discuss if the pre-election situation in France is similar to that of Russia, how nationalist ideas are used in the electing campaigns and how human rights organisations, social movements and anti-racist networks oppose this rhetoric.

Presentation will be in French with translation into Russia.

The second part of the discussion will be devoted to the escalation of inter-ethnic conflicts and the use of them in political fights for power. A documentary about conflicts between the Kyrgyz and Uzbeks in Osh in 2010. As a result, over 440 people died and 169,000, mostly Uzbeks, were forced to leave the country. Interviews with witnesses will also be shown. What help do the victims of inter-ethnic conflicts need? What solidarity actions can be developed in order to prevent the inter-ethnic conflicts?
