Two former prisoners from Uzbekistan who were serving their sentences in Russian prisons died in Ukraine

On January 19, 2023, the bodies of two local residents who died in the war in Ukraine were delivered to Bulungur district of Samarkand region. According to Radio Ozodlik, they were 26-year-old Babur Abdumuminov and 24-year-old Shakhriyor Jalolov, both former migrant workers who had been imprisoned in Russia. Their relatives do not know the details of their enlistment and deaths in the Russian army.

This is the first time that a report about Uzbeks whose deaths in the war with Ukraine have been documented is made public. The editors of Radio Ozodlik are trying to identify several other Uzbeks whose bodies were brought to Uzbekistan in the last few weeks.
