UN Special Rapporteur released a report on human rights violations in Russia: special concerns about the situation of Indigenous peoples

In the report on human rights violations in Russia (September 15, 2025), the UN Special Rapporteur Mariana Katsarova highlighted the particular vulnerability of Indigenous peoples in Russia. She mentioned the imperfection of legislation depriving peoples numbering more than 50,000 people of necessary protection; the facts of the use of repressive laws against Indigenous organizations on foreign agents, undesirable organizations, extremism and terrorism; repression against the media (the resources of Komi Daily and Asians of Russia received the status of terrorist); disproportionate and often forced mobilization of Indigenous men for the war against Ukraine.

Earlier, ADC Memorial and the International Committee of Indigenous Peoples of Russia informed Mariana Katsarova about violations of the rights of Indigenous peoples and other vulnerable groups.
