Stefania Kulaeva, expert of ADC Memorial, commented on the problem of violations of the rights of migrant workers from Central Asian countries in the Russian Federation to the Current Time channel.
Earlier, the journalists of Current Time published an appeal from the imprisoned citizens of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, who complained about the pressure of the prison administration. According to the migrants, they are tortured in order they write refusals of citizenship of their countries and to be sent to the front in Ukraine. Stefania Kulaeva assessed this situation as evidence that the Russian authorities cannot ignore the reaction of the countries of citizenship of migrants and do not dare to send them to war without renouncing citizenship. This means that citizenship protects migrants from Central Asian countries (there are also cases of liberation of citizens of Nepal and India from de facto frontline slavery after the governments of these countries appealed to the authorities of the Russian Federation).
It is necessary to demand from the authorities of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and other donor countries of labor migration to the Russian Federation to protect the rights of their citizens and respond to appeals, such as a petition from prisoners who refuse to go to war despite pressure and torture from the Federal Penitentiary Service.
