International Day of Peace in the midst of war

September 21 is the International Day of Peace. By establishing this holiday, the UN General Assembly calls not only to recognize personal and collective responsibility for strengthening peace but also to act every day in the name of peace: fight discrimination, protect human rights and educate young people.

Fighting has been going on in Ukraine for a year and a half, and every day, in conditions of total danger, people ensure the functioning of peaceful state and public institutions. Children and adults learned to withstand the terrible hardships and difficulties that the war brought into their lives. Human rights defenders and activists continue to protect the most vulnerable groups, law enforcement agencies fight corruption, teachers continue to teach children, doctors continue to work to the limit of their strength, master new technologies and treatment methods, volunteers and philanthropists act when the worst happens right outside your window. People and the country have rebuilt themselves, learned to maintain their livelihoods and their peaceful lives even during the cruel and inhumane war that Russia is waging against Ukraine.

By supporting the priority of a culture of peace for all people on the planet, we are making the only correct moral choice. ADC Memorial invites everyone to join the call of the United Nations and act daily in the name of peace: fight discrimination, protect human rights and engage in education.

An important area of ADC Memorial’s work in recent years has been the #CrossborderСhildhoodUA campaign to protect the rights of children in Ukraine and those who were forced to leave.

  • Read the 2023 reports on the situation regarding the observance of children’s rights in Ukraine, EU countries and the Russian Federation.
  • We also invite you to watch the animated documentary short films that ADC Memorial created based on the stories of children as part of the #CrossborderСhildhoodUA campaign.

2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. On the International Day of Peace 2023, the UN calls on young people to contribute to building a sustainable world, an equal, just and secure future for all.
