DeMorgen: Vrouw mag in Rusland weer aan het roer: honderden ‘zware’ beroepen worden toegankelijk voor vrouwen

The main Belgian newspaper De Morgen writes about the results of the campaign of ADC Memorial #alljobs4allwomen and calls them the “exceptional victory for the Russian women’s rights movement.” The newspaper interviews Svetlana Medvedeva who, in cooperation with ADC Memorial, won a case in the UN CEDAW and in Russian courts in order to abolish the list of professions prohibited for women in Russia.

Svetlana Medvedeva works as driver/engineer on a barge ship in Russia. Medvedeval has been fighting a five-year (national and international) legal battle to be allowed to work in the profession which was prohibited to women due to their ‘reproductive health’. Thanks to the Medvedeva’s case, the Russian government was instructed to get rid of this discriminatory law. In 2021, the Russian Federation is going to reduce the number of prohibited professions from 456 to 98.
